Mixing

Balance, space and character for every track so everything coexists and sounds like a record.

In the mix you take all the recorded tracks and make them coexist: volume balance, place in the spectrum (EQ), dynamic control (compression), space (panning, reverb, delay) and character (saturation). This is where most “I don’t like how it sounds” problems are actually solved.

What we’re after

  • Balance: every element audible without masking the others.
  • Clarity: each instrument in its frequency range, no mud or harshness.
  • Cohesion: the whole sounding like one thing, not glued-together tracks.

Concepts you’ll use here

EQ, compression, buses and grouping, parallel compression, sidechain, panning, reverb, delay, automation and reference mixing. Each gets its own page with parameters, an interactive demo and a quick path.

What is critical to get right now

  • The volume balance (the single most important thing in a mix).
  • The pocket for the vocal and for the kick/bass: EQ decisions that organize everything.

If the balance is right, a “simple” mix already sounds professional. Always start there.

(This stage will be filled with per-instrument guides, interactive demos and the guide project.)
