Recording
Capture every instrument with the best possible foundation so the rest of the process flows.
Recording is the foundation of everything. Here you capture guitars and bass via DI into your interface, drums with Superior Drummer and vocals with your microphone. What you decide at this stage shapes everything that follows.
What we’re after
- Healthy levels: strong signal without clipping, leaving headroom to work later.
- A good performance: feel and tuning matter more than any later plugin.
- A sonic identity: the base tone (amp sim, mic, technique) you want to chase.
What is critical to get right now
Some things are much easier to nail here than to “fix” later:
- The recording level and the quality of the take.
- The tuning and timing of the performance.
- The noise sources (hums, fret noise, chairs): better removed at the source.
A guitar tracked at a good level and well played mixes itself compared to a weak take.
What you should NOT chase yet
The final “record” tone is not fully defined here. If your guitar sounds a bit harsh or the bass a little dull, that’s normal: it gets shaped in the mix. Don’t get stuck chasing tonal perfection at the recording stage itself.
(This stage will be filled with per-instrument guides, interactive demos and the guide project.)
